It took me a few minutes to adapt to the shortness of facing (since I am more accustomed to medium to medium long facing soprano pieces), but after a few minutes of noodling I found getting around on this mouthpiece to be effortless. The sound is BIG! And I really got the feeling that I could project to concert hall levels with very little effort. The articulation and response was also excellent across the whole range of the instrument, even into the extremely high register up to high G (and even beyond!). Another fine example from Vandoren! If you’re after a top quality classical piece then this ticks all the boxes, although I could quite easily see this being used as a good all-round piece as well. You could argue that the ergonomic changes are neither here nor there, but my feeling is certainly that the newly designed bore (and I have heard re sourcing of brass material) has had a clinical effect on the tonal production; to my mind, we now have something closer to the classic Mark VI soprano sound. Of course, we also have the usual joy of effortless tone production and spot-on intonation at the same time.
