Description
The perfect balance of power and warmth!
For many years the DV and DV NY have been staples in the world of premium sax mouthpieces, but the introduction of the DV JC may appeal to a great many players as it hits that sweet spot between the full-on brightness and power of the DV and warmth of the DV NY. It features design modifications based upon JodyJazz Founder & President, Jody Espina’s customized personal mouthpiece. After the success of the alto piece, we now have the tenor version available to us.
Over the years since the introduction of the original DV, Jody has made a series of tweaks and modifications to the design of his personal DV mouthpiece. As a working musician, Jody would find himself being called upon to play a diverse array of musical genres from week to week and his goal was to make his mouthpiece more perfectly suit the variety of musical environments in which he would most commonly find himself. Now that special design is being made generally available to everyone for the first time. Big, fat and warm with enough power to do a variety of jobs, but sweet and dark enough to play beautiful ballads. In terms of sound, the new DV JC is in between the DV and the DV NY. "There is a characteristic about this mouthpiece that makes it feel even less like a metal piece than the other DVs," says Jody.
The DV JC is manufactured on the most sophisticated computer-controlled Lathes and Mills, yet the DV JC benefits from a high degree of hand finishing. The attention to detail in design and finishing given to the DV JC results in a stunning work of art that plays like a dream come true.
DV Vs DV NY vs DV JC - How are they different?
All three mouthpieces have a full resonant sound due to the secondary window. The DV will have more projection and be brighter due to the raised floor of the chamber while the DV NY will have a more traditional Jazz sound and projection due to the deep full chamber. The DV JC will still have plenty of projection but the brightness will be reined in a tad, as the baffle isn't quite so pronounced.

Staff Review:
I'm a big fan! I absolutely love the Jody DV model, which for me has so much richness and quality in the sound,, not to mention the effortless response. For some styles of music the brightness on this model can be a little too much, and that's where the Jody Custom model comes into play. It just dials back that extra brightness, yet it still retains the qualities that we all love in the DV. A perfect balance!
