The Burnin Metal gives us the qualities that so many of us look for in a mouthpiece - a truly satisfying core sound with depth and warmth but that all essential ability to be able to play with power and projection without losing the tonal integrity. Yes, we had that in the hard rubber version (and still do!) but moving the range on to metal gives us a different set of qualities to enjoy, and these are the increased projection, power and buzz that this material affords us. Let’s take a moment to appreciate the source-point of these mouthpieces – the JodyJazz factory; Jody and Jay have enjoyed a long-standing collaboration which has led to the development of these products, JodyJazz is well-known for being a World-leader in the mouthpiece industry, producing some of the most highly sought after mouthpieces available. This quality assurance has ported naturally into the Burnin range, giving players the confidence that these mouthpieces not only play great, but are made to the highest standards.
As in the hard rubber version, the Burnin metal is a versatile and soulful piece that strikes a great balance between traditional jazz sounds and a contemporary vibe. Its roll-over baffle design is the key to unlocking the power, projection, and brightness when desired. The medium-small chamber departs somewhat from the larger chamber of the hard rubber model and contributes towards its increased power and projection. It also features straight side walls and a thin tip and rails, all components that maximise response and focus. In the main, we have a well-balanced, flexible tone, based on a deep tonal core but with a nice contemporary edge and projection to boot!
Manufactured in the USA, specifically in Savannah, Georgia, by Jody Jazz, the Burnin metal undergoes expert hand-finishing combined with state-of-the-art CNC machining, ensuring the highest quality and consistency. Crafted from high quality brass and finished in a matte gold plating, this mouthpiece has a premium look and feel. The medium facing curve makes it reed-friendly and easy to play, with meticulously designed tip openings (6*,7*,8*).
