Description
A dark mouthpiece with excellent projection, easy altissimo register, and can be played with a warm versatile feel
Introduced early in 2014, the JodyJazz GIANT Tenors were the first saxophone mouthpieces to combine the shape of a hard rubber mouthpiece with the precision of metal. Constructed from Anodized Aluminum and made on the company’s five-axis CNC mill in their factory in Savannah GA, the GIANT Tenors are warm-sounding high-performance Tenor mouthpieces with an extraordinarily big, full, rich and timeless sound. Already hailed as a truly revolutionary mouthpiece, the GIANT Tenors have rapidly been embraced by leading Tenor players from across the globe such as Gaoyang Li in China, Rodrigo Bento in Brazil, Xose Miguelez in Spain and Arno Haas in Germany. Launched with 6*, 7*, 8 and 8* tip openings, the new GIANT George Garzone Signature models expand this selection to include 9* and 10*.
Tip Openings
9* = 0.125 inches
10* = 0.135 inches
Pro Review
“I've been playing the JodyJazz HR* hard rubber for years and thought I would never look at another mouthpiece, but when Jody invited me to the factory to work with him on the larger tip openings for the new GIANT Tenors, I was intrigued.” Said George Garzone. “Many years ago we'd worked together to develop the facing curve on my HR* Tenor 10* and we applied the same principles to the new GIANT Tenor 9* and 10*. Jody's facing curve makes these larger tip openings much easier to play. The metal mouthpiece with the hard rubber shape is the perfect mix for me. The colors in the sound of the GIANT are amazing and I love the way I can lean into it to shape my sound.” - George Garzone
Staff Review
As someone who normally plays around an 8 on Tenor, I have to say that Jody's done a great job with the facing curve on these pieces! You'd normally expect a piece of this size to be quite a big change if you're not accustomed to it, but I found I was able to play the 9* with the same reeds I was using on my 8 with little to no change in effort needed! Big tip openings work really nicely on Tenor if you're prepared to put in the work, so if you're after a HUGE and flexible sound then definitely give this piece a go! - Oren Gurney (oren@sax.co.uk)
