Simon Spillett
Winner of a clutch of awards for his music (Top Tenor in the 2011 British Jazz Awards, Album of the Year in Jazz Journal 2009, BBC Jazz Awards Rising Star 2007 and most recently Services to British Jazz 2016), Simon Spillett has been a professional saxophonist for over two decades, performing with his own bands at such prestigious venues as Ronnie Scott's and festivals like The London Jazz Festival as well as broadcasting on BBC Radio 3.
His playing associations range from jazz legends like Jon Hendricks and John Dankworth through to pop names such as Will Young and Mick Hucknall and he has released three albums which have received rave reviews in both the national and the specialist press.
Simon has taught the saxophone almost as long as he's been playing it, taking masterclasses for Sax.co.uk and others, as well as providing bespoke one-on-one tuition for private students, ranging from beginners to professionals. "My aim is to identify what the student wants to achieve and help them work towards it," he says, "be it improvisation or simply getting to grips with the mechanics of the instrument."
