Who Plays it?
The value-priced Star Series is for any player seeking the ultimate in resonance. Its price belies its ability to deliver warmth and expression for even the most discerning jazz or blues player in an intimate acoustic setting. The Star Series enhances the inherent qualities of the instrument and mouthpiece without "coloring" the tone. It bathes the player in resonance, offering excellent feedback especially to the developing player with an immature embouchure, helping to improve intonation and enhancing the playing experience. To the jazz player, the Star Series offers pleasure...to the new player it offers fun!
CHOOSING THE RIGHT SIZE
HARD RUBBER/PLASTIC MOUTHPIECES
If you have a standard sized hard rubber or plastic mouthpiece (such as a Yamaha 4C or Selmer C*), you will want to select the following sizes:
- Soprano = SS-1RVS
- Alto = SS-1RL
- Tenor = SS-2R
- Baritone = SS-3R (except in the case of Otto Link, Meyer, Vandoren V16 and other slimmer style baritone mouthpieces)
METAL MOUTHPIECES
Metal mouthpieces can vary a lot in size depending on the brand, but the majority of well known manufacturers will take the following sizes:
- Alto = SS-1M
- Tenor = SS-2M
- Baritone = SS-3ML
The main exception to this rule is Metal Otto Links, which take the following sizes:
- Alto = SS-3ML
- Tenor = SS-3ML
- Baritone = No size available. We recommend the Rovner Dark "3MVL"
Please Note: Despite Rovners extensive list of options, there are occasionally mouthpieces where the correct size is not immediately obvious. This is particularly true of baritone and bass mouthpieces, which can vary in size considerably depending on make. If you are at all unsure about which ligature would be best for your mouthpiece, please get in touch via help@sax.co.uk and we'll be happy to help you!
