Description
A perfect upgrade from your student sax or a great, versatile horn for a professional player
The YAS62S has long represented a benchmark for entry-level pro horns.
Description
Very much designed as a blank canvas, this horn is at home in pretty much any context from rock to classical, and responds well right across the board. Anyone who’s finding themselves held back by their student instrument, or a more advanced player looking for a great sax on a budget should consider a 62 as their next step forward.
The brass body is left unlacquered and plated with beautiful bright silver plating. The lack of lacquer does mean occasional cleaning with a silver cloth is required to maintain the finish. However, the added layer of resonant precious metal gives more projection and a wonderful extra dimension to the sound.
The Beauty of Silver Plating
The gradual formation of patina on silver-plated saxophones imparts an exceptional charm and character to the instrument. It's a captivating visual transformation as the saxophone evolves and matures with time.
It is important to acknowledge that although silver polish cloths are available, the natural process of tarnishing cannot be completely halted.
Within just a few days, you will start to witness the beginning of this transformation. It's worth noting that many instruments we receive from the factory have already started tarnishing.

Staff Review
The YAS-62 is one of the most recognised saxophones in the world - it has been around for many decades and the design has been tweaked here and there over the years. I feel that the latest iteration with the narrower-taper neck (based on the V1) has now given the 62 the right balance of breadth and focus in sound. Silver plated Yamahas at the higher price point (62 and upwards) have always been popular due to their reputation for producing that little extra sparkle and brightness beyond what is available with the standard lacquer option. Overall, there is a feeling of solidity and robustness in the playing experience, both in the quality of sound and in the mechanical assuredness.
