The design of these new mouthpieces are all-new, from the outside in.
From its characteristic shape reminiscent of vintage mouthpieces and decidedly comfortable beak design to its perfectly designed facing, rails and table, the Optimum series is designed to be more free-blowing and responsive. With accurate articulation and total control at all dynamic ranges, the Optimum mouthpieces also possess precise intonation - a Vandoren hallmark.
Tip Opening/Facing Length
BL3 (1.85mm/Short Facing) The standard baritone mouthpiece. Great for classical playing.
BL4 (2.30mm/Medium Facing) A very versatile mouthpiece. Suits both classical and jazz.
BL5 (2.35mm/Long Facing) Similar to the BL3, but with a larger tip opening. A large and round sound.
"This is a mouthpiece definitely aimed at the classical market. As a blues man I was initially sceptical about what I would have to say about this, but found it an absolute joy to play on. Whereas it lacked the attack and heavy bottom end that I'd normally look for in a mouthpiece for myself, it had a beautiful lightness and quick response that made for a very fluid, airy feel- the notes seemed to dance out of the sax. Its natural tone was smooth and crisp, with an obvious leaning toward the 'cello-like' sound favoured by classical players. A mouthpiece that really made me approach playing in a different & inspiring way." - Julian Lawrence (firstname.lastname@example.org)
What has impressed with the range of Vandoren mouthpieces is the quality and clarity of the sound produced. With good reeds and a good ligature these mouthpieces feel very comfortable to play and really help the sax player to maximise his or her potential. There are a wide variety to choose from whatever style of music you are into. They are professional quality mouthpieces in every way at an affordable price.
